The region commonly referred to as Kabini is in fact the lush rural land that flanks the Kabini river along the forest called Nagarhole in Karnataka. The same stretch of forest is called the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary to the south in Kerala, and Mudumalai National Park to the east in Tamil Nadu. All were separated by an expanse of water that rose from a dam built upstream. It is this very unique reservoir-edged landscape that is quintessentially Kabini - rural fields to one side, serene waters to another, and forest beyond.
