The remains of this erstwhile seat of southern power and epicentre of culture, architecture and military prowess, is so alluring it is deemed an official UNESCO Heritage Site. The 1600 surviving remains of one of the last ‘great Hindu kingdoms of South India’ feature architectural wonders spanning temples, pillared halls, royal complexes, forts and other pioneering structures.

Sri Krishna Temple
Notable for its unique architecture, it is dedicated to Lord Balakrishna, the form of Lord Krishna when he was an infant.
Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple
A temple that is in fact a huge statue of Lord Ganesha, carved out of a single block of rock.
Hemakuta Hill Temple
A hillock sprinkled with ancient temples belonging to both, pre-Vijayanagara as well as Vijayanagara periods.
Virupaksha Temple

A colossal public bath that exemplifies the architectural excellence of the Vijayanagara Empire.
